Cape Town - Privately-owned local carrier SA Airlink has announced two new flights linking Johannesburg with Kasane in Botswana and Vilanculos in Mozambique.
This brings Airlink’s route network to a total of 31 destinations, of which 17 are cross-border destinations.
In a statement Airlink said it will operate the Kasane route with one of its 12 Embraer jets which seats 37 passengers.
A BAE 29-seater Jetstream 41 will initially be used on the flight to Vilanculos.
Kasane is strategically placed close to a corner where four countries meet: Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia and Namibia.
Airlink spokesperson Karin Murray said the new routes will add to Airlink’s bush beach offering.
Although Iata member Airlink is privately owned, it does offer some regional flights on behalf of state-owned carrier South African Airways in a partnership agreement.
The latest expansion comes after a year of turmoil in the local airline industry that saw the demise of low cost carrier 1Time.
