Rashid Toefy leaving CTICC

Cape Town - Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) CEO Rashid Toefy will be leaving the CTICC in mid June 2014 to embark on a new journey with MCI.

MCI is one of  the world’s leading providers of strategic engagement and activation solutions and a key driver of innovation in the international meetings, incentives, congress and events (MICE) industry.

Toefy will fulfil the role of MCI South Africa's managing director when his tenure concludes at the CTICC.

According to CTICC chair, Gary Fisher, while the board is sad to bid farewell to Toefy, they wish him all the success in his new endeavour.

“Rashid was appointed as CEO of the CTICC in March 2008. We believe he has exceeded on the deliverables he was tasked with as the head of the CTICC,” said Fisher.

The first task, Fisher said, was to manage the transition from the RAI management era at CTICC to that of a fully-fledged, Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) compliant, self-sustained company.

The second goal was to run a profitable business that delivered on its goals, ambitions and targets, both financially and from a triple bottom line point of view.

“Rashid succeeded in both these tasks, and ensured that a spirit of excellence, performance and responsibility was embedded in the culture of the company,” said Fisher.

Challenges

Notwithstanding the challenges of the past two years, Fisher said Toefy also delivered on his third task, which was the expansion of CTICC.

Construction work on CTICC East starts in July and doors will open to the public in January 2017.

During Toefy’s term of office the centre also hit a record high in terms of its financial performance and achieved an unqualified clean audit.

Over the past six years the centre has garnered international recognition for its commitment to international standards of best practice.

The CTICC is also one of the world leading sustainable convention centres and is the only centre in the world to align its reporting to the Global Reporting Initiative Framework and achieve a Level B + status.

“Toefy has left a legacy that is characterised by an unwavering commitment to always striving for excellence and innovation in all facets of the centre’s operations. He leaves behind an excellent management team that will take the CTICC to even greater heights”, said Fisher.

Local expertise

Sumaira Isaacs, MCI CEO for India, the Middle East and Africa (Imea) said that MCI is excited to have Toefy join the group.

“He will bring unparalleled local expertise and connections, which will reinforce MCI South Africa’s capacity to deliver winning strategies and solutions for clients across the Imea region,” she said.

Toefy said he remains fully committed to the CTICC and looks forward to assisting the board in managing the transition.

"I am confident that the team I leave behind is more than equipped to take CTICC into the future, to the benefit of everyone in Cape Town and the Western Cape,” said Toefy.
