Cape Town - The Swiss airline Edelweiss has decided to start seasonal direct flights between Cape Town and Zürich as from the end of September.
"This will be the third season in a row that we offer these seasonal flights. Due to demand it will include a daytime flight," said Michael Testl, business development manager of Edelweiss at a launch held in Cape Town on Tuesday.
Between September 30 2013 and May 2 2014 Edelweiss, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, will offer two direct flights each way per week between Cape Town and Zürich.
"We focus very much on the leisure market and will offer passengers from Cape Town connecting flights to 45 different destinations," Testl told Fin24.
"Cape Town has evolved into one of our most popular seasonal routes."
More than 1.2 million passengers travel with Edelweiss globally each year. The airline had a turnover of 365 million Swiss francs in 2012 and had an average occupancy of 83%.
New destinations planned as from May 2014 include Las Vegas, Havana, Edingurgh and Tampa Bay.
