Comair [JSE:COM] has announced changes to some of its routes. The group owns low-cost carrier Kulula Air and also operates British Airways flights in South Africa.
Comair says it has cut the number of flights between OR Tambo International and Dar es Salaam airport in Tanzania from five flights per week to three. Flights will now leave from Johannesburg on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, returning to Johannesburg on Thursday, Saturday and Monday.
Stuart Cochrane, Comair's executive manager for network development and alliances, said Comair introduced the Johannesburg-Dar es Salaam route in November last year. It aimed to support strategic growth into Africa and provide enhanced access to and from South Africa for both business travellers and tourists travelling from Dar es Salaam.
"Generally, the uptake on this particular route has been satisfactory," said Cochrane. "However, as part of an annual scheduling revision process Comair is currently investigating all existing routes in a bid to identify areas of improvement."
Comair has also increased flights between OR Tambo and the Kruger International airport to two flights per day, leaving late afternoon and early morning. Cochrane says there has been an increase in demand from business travellers for this route. The new flights are already available.
