Miami - American Airlines and Quantas announced at the annual general meeting of the Intenational Air Transport Association (Iata) that they are planning to significantly expand their joint businesses.
On the one hand American Airlines will operate a new route between Los Angeles and Sydney, while Qantas, on the other hand, will operate a new route between San Francisco and Sydney.
The new American Airlines route will be a daily non-stop flight and is due to start in December.
Both Doug Parker, CEO of the American Airlines Group and Alan Joyce, CEO of Quantas, said this new agreement will offer both airlines the opportunity to explore new markets, like New Zealand.
The deal is still subject to regulatory approval, the airlines said at a joint media briefing on Tuesday.
