Johannesburg - Management of low-cost African airline, Fastjet will meet with the liquidator of South Africa's 1time next week in a bid to re-launch the airline, the company said on Saturday.
"Fastjet has an option with the 1time liquidator to acquire what is left of the business, subject to a number of conditions," the London-listed airline said in a statement.
1time filed for liquidation in November last year.
Fastjet said it had secured funding of at least R210m over the next 12 months to assist with its expansion plans in Africa.
There were opportunities for a low cost airline in southern Africa.
"Although we have been met with stiff opposition from other South African carriers, we feel that the South African flying public will be the true beneficiaries of the added seat capacity we intend to offer."
Fastjet will further be seeking "high-level" meetings with the aviation authorities to allow Tanzanian airline Fly540 Tanzania to operate daily services from Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to Johannesburg.
