Johannesburg - A task team will be set up to provide business with regular progress updates and details of anticipated power outages, the SA Chamber of Business (Sacob) said on Tuesday.

The decision was taken at a meeting on Tuesday between Sacob and Eskom where the power outages in the Western Cape were discussed, Sacob spokesperson Maureen Midgley said.

"Whilst no short term solution to the problem is in sight, it was agreed that a Business Unity South Africa (BUSA)/Sacob task team will work closely with Eskom to provide a communication mechanism to provide progress updates and details of anticipated outage disruptions."

One of two generators at the Koeberg nuclear station was damaged in December, causing power outages in the Western Cape in the past two months.

Eskom chief executive Thulani Gcabashe said Eskom had obtained a rotor from France to replace the damaged generator.
