Pravin Gordhan said on Thursday he has yet to receive a formal application regarding HSBC's bid to buy up to 70% of local lender
Nedbank Group [JSE:NED].
When asked by reporters when he expected to make a decision on HSBC's announced bid, Gordhan said: "When the letter comes to me."
He added that he has not been approached yet about the deal.
HSBC is in exclusive talks to buy a controlling stake in Nedbank from insurer
Old Mutual [JSE:OML]. The deal requires approval from South African authorities, who have been wary in the past about foreign ownership of local banks.
