Johannesburg - Standard Bank [JSE:SBK], South Africa's largest lender by assets, said it is not in talks to sell its business in Argentina, denying a magazine report that the company said will come out soon.
South Africa's Financial Mail will report this week that the bank is mulling the sale, a spokesman for Johannesburg-based Standard Bank said.
"We are committed to expanding our Argentine business and in growing our branch network in the country as opportunities emerge," said the bank's deputy group CEO, Peter Wharton-Hood.
No one was immediately available for comment at the Financial Mail. A search of the magazine's website revealed no article about Standard Bank selling its Argentine operation.
