Cape Town - Acquisitive empowerment company Sekunjalo Investments on Thursday signaled its intention to ply the media sector for new growth opportunities.
Sekunjalo has appointed well known journalist Ryland Fisher to head a newly formed Sekunjalo Media, which is expected to make significant acquisitions in the media arena shortly.
Fisher, who ran his own communications consultancy, will be best remembered for his tenure as editor of the Cape Times during the controversial "One City, Many Cultures" campaign.
Fisher was also a former assistant editor of the Sunday Times and has served several other newspapers in a 25 year career.
He was also a former head of the Peninsula Technikon's journalism department and until last month, was a special adviser to the minister of justice and constitutional development.
Fisher believed there were many opportunities in the media industry, especially for a truly black economic empowerment company. "We will soon announce exciting acquisitions in the media industry."
Sekunjalo deputy CEO Norman Noland said shareholders would soon see the benefits of a focused acquisition strategy to enhance Sekunjalo's drive into the media arena.
"Ryland's experience will add significant value to the group as he takes responsibility for the Media Division, brand building and communication."
