Secunda - Petrochemicals group Sasol said it is considering building a 80 megawatt gas turbine in 2011 for electricity production in Sasolburg, southwest of Johannesburg.
"We are investigating a 80 megawatt gas-fired power (plant) at Sasolburg that will be for our own use," Piet van Staden, an executive manager at Sasol, told reporters.
Sasol is the world's largest maker of motor fuel from coal.
Sasol's operation in Secunda converts coal and natural gas into synthetic transportation fuels such as petrol, diesel and jet fuel and chemicals.
