"We are pleased to announce that we have been able to renegotiate our deal with Network Associates, the owners of McAfee, which enables us to offer our internet banking customers free McAfee anti-virus and firewall software for another year," says Louis Blom.
On July 25 last year Standard Bank became the first local bank to offer its customers free anti-virus and personal firewall software.
This offer was valid for a year, and at the end of which customers would have been responsible for the maintenance fee on the software.
To date more than 45 000 customers have taken up the offer.
The software can be downloaded from Standard Bank's internet banking site after customers' have logged on. The cost of the firewall and anti-virus software will be borne by Standard Bank for another year.
This move, along with other security mechanisms, reduces the risk of a customer being defrauded through internet banking should their account number and Pin be compromised.
