London - Brewing giant SABMiller reported a 1% fall in fourth-quarter worldwide underlying beer volumes on Thursday as economic conditions deteriorated and consumer demand fell in most of its markets.
The volume dip from the London-based brewer of Miller Lite, Peroni and Grolsch for its January-March quarter compares with analysts expectations for a 0.2 to 1% increase and a consensus for a 0.8% rise.
Beer volumes for the 12 months to end-March on an underlying basis were level after a largely flat first nine months (April-Dec 2008), the group said in a trading statement ahead of its full year results on May 14.
