Johannesburg - Two high-profile industry achievement awards were announced recently at the 20th Annual SA Council of Shopping Centres’ (SACSC) Congress, acknowledging the exceptional contributions of the retail industry’s top talent.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Dr Dirk Prinsloo, managing director of specialist consulting firm Urban Studies.
A respected urban researcher, Prinsloo has spent the past three decades conducting urban market and property research throughout southern Africa and has undertaken more than 30 study tours to Europe, Canada, the United States, Australia, South America and the Middle East.
“The SACSC Lifetime Achievement Award is only presented to retail industry professionals who are building a legacy for the next generation,” said SACSC CEO Amanda Stops.
“In addition to his contribution to both the academic and business worlds, Dirk’s commitment to the integrity of research remains one of his most important lessons for future researchers.”
The Young Achiever Award is given to a recipient under the age of 40 years who has – in a short period of time – been recognised as an industry trailblazer.
This year, the award went to Jason McCormick, managing director of McCormick Property Development.
“Jason has grown the group’s portfolio from just six centres in 2002, to 27 centres in 2016 - plus a further 98 000m² under construction,” said Stops.
“The SACSC is pleased to spotlight the innovative successes that he has achieved in his career to date – and we look forward to more to come.”
