Johannesburg - A Johannesburg law firm is seeking to have the seven wire sheep confiscated from a business by the city's metro police returned, and the R2 000 fine it was issued for illegal trading cancelled.
"It is regrettable that this matter has escalated to this level, and our firm will take the necessary steps to ensure the return of the company's property, the withdrawal of the impounding fee, and an appropriate apology," attorney Bongani Dlodlo of Jurgens Bekker Attorneys said in a statement.
The firm is acting on behalf of audiovisual store Bang & Olufsen.
Johannesburg metro police officers impounded the flock of seven wire and bead sheep "grazing" on the grass in front of the store and issued the fine, apparently thinking they were on sale.
"You can't just put things outside for decoration... The goods probably were sold to the public," head of bylaw enforcement Sipho Dlepu was quoted by The Star as saying.
Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said they would comment on Thursday morning.
"We will issue a statement tomorrow morning after we've had an internal meeting about the sheep."
