Johannesburg - Growth in South Africa’s retail sales jumped to 8.7% year-on-year at constant prices in December from an upwardly revised 7.2% in November, Statistics South Africa said on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month basis sales grew by 1.3% in December and were up 7.9% in the last quarter of 2011 compared with the same period a year ago, also at constant prices.
Economists polled by Reuters this week expected year-on-year growth to slow to 6.5% in December.
