Johannesburg - Holdsport (HSP), which runs the Sportsmans Warehouse and Outdoor Warehouse stores, said on Monday that total sales for the five months ended January 31, 2012 increased by 11.5% compared to the corresponding period last year.

Retail sales increased by 10.8% with sales for comparable stores increasing by 8.6% over the period, it said.

Sportsmans Warehouse increased sales by 12.3% (10.8% comparable); Outdoor Warehouse sales increased by 6.6% (2.7% comparable), and the group's wholesale division recorded sales growth of 42.8%.

Holdsport said retail trading space increased by 2.9% relative to the prior corresponding period, and merchandise inflation for the period averaged 1.4%.
