Cape Town - Taste Holdings has signed an exclusive 30-year master licence agreement to develop the international Domino’s Pizza brand in seven southern African countries, it announced on Wednesday.
Domino’s Pizza, which was founded in 1960, has over 10 800 outlets in more than 70 countries.
It is the recognised as a leader in pizza delivery, with more than 1 million pizzas being delivered daily worldwide. This figure is expected to escalate once the first Domino’s store opens in South Africa.
Domino’s Pizza will become Taste’s leading pizza franchise and Scooters Pizza and St Elmo’s franchisees will be given the opportunity and assistance to convert to Domino’s Pizza.
Taste CEO Carlo Gonzaga said Scooters Pizza and St Elmo’s are both based on principles and operating standards similar to those of Domino’s Pizza.
"We look forward to working alongside our franchisees to assist them to convert their stores to the Domino’s Pizza brand.”
Gonzaga also assured customers that nothing would change with the conversion of Scooters Pizza and St Elmo’s to Domino's Pizza. “If anything, things are only going to get better from here on.”
He said being part of Domino’s Pizza will give the group’s franchisees access to global resources including best operating practices, new product pipelines and access to Domino’s online ordering platform.
“In this last respect, Domino’s is an exciting global leader in online ordering and pizza delivery technology."
Stores are expected to start converting during this year and no new Scooters Pizza or St Elmo’s stores will be opened.
