Cape Town - Woolworths CEO Ian Moir has taken the Ice Bucket Challenge after being nominated by Cape Union Mart boss Andre Labuschaigne.
Moir took on the challenge in honour of employees and customers living with Breast Cancer and donated R100 000 to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
Woolworths head office facilities rely on grey water from an underground stream and Moir used the same grey water for his challenge.
Moir nominated Doug Murray, CEO of the Foschini Group, Barclays Africa CEO Maria Ramos and media personality Bonang Matheba to take the challenge.
The Ice Bucket Challenge was started in support of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which is a neurodegenerative disorder where muscle tissue degenerates.
The campaign has garnered support from business tycoons such as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and former Microsoft chair Bill Gates.
