Johannesburg - Pick n Pay and the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (Saccawu) have reached
agreement on a two-year remuneration deal, following recent wage negotiations.
The agreement was signed by both parties around midnight on Tuesday, following mediation chaired by Meshack Ravuku, of Tokiso, of the declared dispute between the parties.
In terms of the agreement, which is binding for two years, staff will receive an across-the-board increase of R410 for year one, and R415 for year two. The first year's wage increase will be backdated to 1 March 2008. In addition, the minimum Pick n Pay wage will be R2 700 for year one, and R2 800 for year two. It was also agreed that all variable-time employees will work for a minimum guaranteed 85 hours per month, with the 60 hours per month category falling away.
"Pick n Pay is delighted that agreement has finally been reached with Saccawu over employee remuneration. It is to the credit of both parties that a mutually agreeable solution could be reached," says Pick n Pay CEO Nick Badminton.
