Johannesburg - Retailer Pick n Pay Sores [JSE:PIK] on Thursday announced that it has reached a settlement on wages and conditions of employment with the SA Catering and Commercial Allied Workers Union (Saccawu).
In a statememt, the company said workers would return to work on Thursday November 11 and
Friday November 12 2010.
The three year deal, which is divided into two 18-month settlement periods, will see employees receive an increase of R365 per month across the board for the first settlement period, and R400 per month for the second period.
"We are pleased that we have reached agreement and believe that this is in the interests of both employees at Pick n Pay and the long-term sustainability of the company. The wage agreement document will however be signed by the parties on Friday November 12," said Saccawu and Pick n Pay.
The settlement comes nearly two weeks after Pick n Pay was granted an interdict by the Labour Court in respect to industrial action by 27 000 Saccawu members who were planning to embark on a full-blown strike.
At the time, the union was demanding a R550 per month increase or 12% 'whichever is greater', a 10% staff discount on basic food stuff, 120 hours per month guaranteed for variable time employees, a one-year wage agreement, an end in the use of labour brokers and the establishment of a Centralised Bargaining Forum for the retail sector.
