Johannesburg - JSE-listed retailer Pick n Pay has warned customers of a telephone scam currently taking place in the Western Cape.
In a statement on Wednesday, the company said customers in the Western Cape area were receiving phone calls from a so-called agency conducting customer service surveys on behalf of Pick n Pay.
"During the conversation, the caller attempts to elicit credit card and banking details."
The company said it would like to alert customers to the fact that this "survey" was in no way sanctioned by Pick n Pay and that customers should not, under any circumstances, provide any sensitive information should they receive a call of this nature.
"Pick n Pay never conducts any research where people's private banking details are requested," spokeswoman Tamra Veley said.
She urged customers to be on the lookout for the scam and never to give their banking details to any unauthorised party.
