Greek lawmakers have approved a new round of drastic austerity measures after a long day of street battles between police and protesters left dozens injured.
Cape Town - In anticipation of the election results, Pick n Pay Group chairperson Raymond Ackerman said that South Africans should abandon their cynicism and support "whoever is elected president".
At the presentation of the group's annual results Ackerman pleaded for a putting aside of negativity, and for people to rather help build up this country that had been ravaged by political violence only 15 years ago.
He referred to India, which had moved its IPL tournament to South Africa because it feared possible violence during its own elections, and said that that fact bore witness to wonderful confidence in our country.
He believed it had become critically important to be realistic and optimistic about South Africa's future.
