Johannesburg - South Africa's logistics group Transnet said on Tuesday its National Port Authority division was not in talks to build a new coal terminal in the country.
South African industry sources said at a coal conference in Mumbai that a new thermal coal export terminal will be built this year at South Dunes near Richards Bay that could start shipments as early as June.
"I'd like to confirm that Transnet is not in talks with anyone regarding building a coal terminal in Richards Bay," John Dludlu, a Transnet spokesperson said.
