Johannesburg - JSE-listed Sekunjalo Investments Limited (SKJ) has announced the appointment of prominent Namibian businessperson Mihe Gaomab to the board as a non-executive director.

Gaomab is the first non-South African director appointed to the Sekunjalo board and will be responsible for Sekunjalo's sub-Saharan expansion and projects with a specific focus on SADC countries.

Gaomab is an economic, business and project strategist and has two post-graduate diplomas, in Social Sciences from the Academy of Sciences in Germany in Rohstock, and Project Design and Administration from Akademie Klausenhof at Rhede also in Germany.

He was Chief Project Economic Specialist for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and also Marketing Manager of the Namibian Ports Authority.

Gaomab is currently the Chief Co-ordinator of the Trans-Kalahari Electrified Railway Line Project, which also includes a new port, a power station and a coal mine development.

Sekunjalo together with Siemens are consortium partners in this 20-billion rand development. Gaomab serves on the boards of a number of major Namibian companies.

Norman Noland, Deputy CEO of Sekunjalo, said he was delighted Gaomeb had accepted the invitation to join Sekunjalo's board.

"We are assessing a number of opportunities in the SADC region and Mihe's network and influence will assist us in identifying and maximizing investments beyond our borders.

"Mihe is regarded as the foremost project and business strategist in Namibia and is highly respected in Namibia and SADC countries. He has wide ranging contacts in governments and the private sector in Africa and globally," Noland said.
