Johannesburg - The South African Revenue Service on Friday granted those who requested extensions another month to submit their tax returns.
Some 8 000 people who missed the official deadline on July 8, had until September 30 to submit their returns.
SARS spokesperson Adrian LacKay on Friday said the new extension, until October 31, has been granted after numerous requests from accounting entities.
LacKay said the SARS won't except any new applications at any of its branches.
"This additional one-month extension will be done automatically on SARS' system for those taxpayers that had been granted an extension to September 30 2005, so it is not necessary for taxpayers to make specific requests for this additional extension," said Isabel Pretorius, Johannesburg's assistant tax manager.
She said the official rate of interest for the purposes of the calculation of fringe benefits tax was reduced from 8.5% to 8% with effect from September 1 2005.
The cap on the amount of remuneration in respect of which the unemployment insurance must be calculated is to be increased from R8 836 to R10 966, effective October 1 2005.
