Shooting inquiry politically motivated: Malema

2012-08-21 17:10

Rustenburg - The police, not a commission, should probe the shooting in Marikana, expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema said on Tuesday.

"I do not trust [President Jacob] Zuma. The police must investigate this, not some politically motivated commission. This is the way it is supposed to be done," Malema said.

"The person who established this commission is not an honest man. He established it to arrive at certain conclusions."

Malema was speaking before entering the Marikana police station with residents and miners to lay murder charges against the police following Thursday's shooting at Lonmin's mine. Reporters were not allowed inside.

Last week, the platinum mining company's rock-drill operators in Marikana embarked on a protest that saw 10 people, including two security guards and two police officers, killed.

The protests culminated in clashes with the police on Thursday, in which 34 miners were shot dead, more than 70 injured and 260 arrested.

Zuma set up a judicial commission last week to investigate the shooting.

Malema said some police officers were prepared to conduct the Marikana investigation, if given the opportunity.

"I spoke to some of the police. Some were there on the day and some were not. They said they were not happy with what happened and would investigate the matter if given a chance."

The protests were believed to be linked to rivalry between the National Union of Mineworkers and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union over recognition agreements at the mine. Workers also wanted higher pay.

I guess the footage of the miner firing on police seconds before they got shot up themselves was the video editing voodoo of white imperialist, rubbish on the trouser, 3rd force colonialist bustads and the 2 dead police officers and 2 dead security guards are all figments of our counter revolutionary imaginations.

We should further take this case to the ICC at the Hague where we will be guaranteed justice without any political interference! We have so many commissions in this country that Zuma is presiding on and nothing ever gets done. We have a commission for the toilets in Maqaka Municipality, Limpopo text books, Education in the Eastern Cape, arms deal and the conduct of the police commissioner (that is still being questioned in court)! The real leaders of the ANC that is the branches will be the final arbiter of Zuma and his cabal in less than five months. And they can rest assure that the axe we used in Polokwane will be much more sharper for them this time around! If we do not nationalize in December we will be spitting in the grave of Solomon Mahlangu to please Ramaphosa's friends the filthy white monopoly capital!

How can the police investigate a situation in which they themselves are hopelessly implicated in right up to their necks. The workers should lay a case at the international criminal court in the Hague and ask for an in-depth independent multi-national inquiry and investigation. Any internal South African investigation is already so emotionally charged that it would be impossible to derive at a clear, concise and unbiased result and or proper prosecution of those that are guilty of breaking the law. It certainly cannot go forward the way it is, political cadres deployed to investigate the possible implication of party faithful, corporate conspiracy and who knows what else is lying uncovered in this outrages mess that the LONMIN massacre is. And it is a Massacre.
