Cape Town - Anglo American is monitoring the situation at its Kleinkopje coal operation in Mpumalanga, where NUM members have embarked on a wildcat strike.
“The mine has not been operating since Tuesday April 7 due to intimidation by NUM members,” Anglo American spokesperson, Moeketsi Mofokeng, told Fin24.
“Mine and head office management is in talks with the regional leadership of the National Union of Mineworkers [NUM] in an attempt to end the strike,” he said.

The NUM members are calling for the removal of a general manager they claim has made several changes without consulting with the union.
"All the changes he made must be reversed and the consultation process must commence," NUM said in a statement.
NUM spokesperson Livhuwani Mammburu told Reuters that workers are on strike, but could not say how many miners were involved.
NUM has cited several issues under dispute, including recruitment procedures, placement of a health and safety representative, bonus pay and other restructuring processes.
CEO of Anglo American’s Coal business, Themba Mkhwanazi, the company fully supports mine management’s strategy of broader business transformation.
“We are disappointed by this illegal action and we continue discussions with the union leadership to reach a speedy resolution to this industrial action,” he said.
