No resolution in Lonmin talks

Johannesburg - Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant will meet Lonmin [JSE:LON] management and four unions in Rustenburg on Wednesday, in an attempt to resolve a month-long strike.

The unions are the National Union of Mineworkers, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union, Solidarity, and Uasa.

Workers at the world's third-largest platinum producer went on strike earlier this month, demanding a monthly salary of R12 500. They have vowed not to return to work until their demand is met.

The strikers, who described themselves as "Lonmin workers" and said they were not members of any of the unions, wanted to represent themselves at the meeting.

Lonmin said it understood that its employees were waiting for the risk of intimidation to disappear before returning to work.
