Johannesburg - The recruitment of new workers at Impala Platinum Holdings [JSE:IMP] mine in Rustenburg will start next week, the company said on Friday.
It fired 17 200 workers this week for participating in a three day illegal strike over salaries.
The company was still finalising the dismissals on Friday and the process of recruiting new staff - or rehiring employees who wanted to reapply for their positions - would start next week, said spokesman Bob Gilmour.
Implats had increased miners' salaries by 18% but had excluded rockdrill operators and other categories, and this had triggered the illegal strike, National Union of Mineworkers (Num) spokesman Lesiba Seshoka said on Wednesday.
The Num also accused Implats of going back on its promise to negotiate with it on issues other than those involving salaries.
