The miner received six out of the seven safety awards.
MineSAFE is an annual event‚ supported by the Department of Mineral Resources and hosted by the Association of Mine Managers of South Africa (AMMSA)‚ the South African Institute for Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) and the South African Collieries Managers Association (SACMA).
The competition stretches across SA’s mining industry and is based on improvement in lost time injury frequency rates year on year.
The awards were presented by David Msiza‚ the chief inspector of the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR).
First place went to Harmony’s Target 1 and Target 3 operations combined. Kalgold came in second‚ Kusasalethu was third and Doornkop fourth.
“Safety is Harmony’s first priority and these recognitions confirm that all the operations are dedicated to meet the company’s safety objectives‚” said Harmony CEO Graham Briggs.
