Johannesburg - South Africa's gold output rose 0.4% in volume terms in August while total mineral production increased 0.8% compared with the same month last year, Statistics South Africa data showed on Thursday.

Production of platinum group metals fell 1.9%, while output of non-gold minerals rose 1%, the statistics agency said.
