Gold One fires striking workers

2012-10-09 14:01

Johannesburg - Junior miner Gold One International [JSE:GDO] said it had dismissed the majority of workers at its Ezulwini operation hit by an illegal strike last week, the latest response to a wave of wildcat strikes sweeping through the industry.

The company said it had dismissed around 1 435 of Ezulwini's total 1 900 workers. The workers can appeal the decision, it added.

The beginning of the African spring or a lesson in total destruction. Call it what you want, the result is the same. Level of violence will increase with time.

Just what illegal strikes deserve. Other companies must follow this example.

Good Gold One! Well done! Most unfortunate that those employees at the receiving end of this will only realise what the hell happened when it's too late to make amends and they have to go to bed hungry.
