Johannesburg - Gold Fields [JSE:GFI] said on Thursday despite the current slump in the gold price and the subsequent challenges it brought‚ it was still optimistic about the future of the yellow metal. The gold producer also reaffirmed the potential benefits of its portfolio review.
“We believe that gold remains a very relevant commodity and‚ with the changes that we have made to our strategy‚ our operating model and our structures‚ that we are now well positioned to benefit from the upturn when it again arrives‚” said chairwoman of the gold producer Cheryl Carolus‚ at the annual general meeting.
She said the portfolio review - which included the unbundling of Sibanye Gold earlier this year - was a landmark development and had allowed both companies to refocus and dedicate their management efforts‚ resources and strategies on their unique opportunities.
