Cape Town - A small group of “disappointed and demoralised” mineworkers filed away from the high court in Pretoria on Monday at the end of the first day of the R1.5bn case against Aurora Empowerment Systems.
Directors of the company, including Nelson Mandela's grandson Zondwa Mandela and President Jacob Zuma's nephew Khulubuse Zuma are charged with being responsible for the fraudulent running of Aurora.
Most of the mineworkers present were formerly employed by Aurora and were members of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM). They had not been paid for more than four years. The court is hearing a claim brought by the liquidators against the Aurora directors for allegedly stripping the assets of the mines.
