Johannesburg - AngloGold Ashanti [JSE:ANG], South Africa's largest gold producer, said on Thursday its Tropicana project in Australia has been commissioned ahead of schedule and will begin producing gold in the third quarter.
The project, originally forecast to begin production in the fourth quarter, will cost up to $845m and average annual production in the first three years is expected to be between 470 000 and 490 000 ounces.
