Johannesburg - Shares of AngloGold Ashanti [JSE:ANG], the
world’s third-largest gold producer, jumped 4% on Thursday as South
Africa’s main gold producers were lifted by a spot price rally.
The spot price broke the psychologically important $1 650 an ounce
level, reversing steep losses on Wednesday. At 13:05 GMT it was up $10 at
$1 653.30/oz.
AngloGold’s shares were 4.2% up at R271.44, while its
closest rival Gold Fields [JSE:GFI] added 3.2% to R101.20.
