Rustenburg - Amcu's strike at Anglo American Platinum's [JSE:AMS] (Amplats) operations in Rustenburg entered its third day on Tuesday.
Workers gathered at the Thembelani shaft and vowed not to return to work until the company withdrew its intention to retrench 3300 workers.
"No one is going to be retrenched, we are fighting this decision," said Anna Molapo, a worker at Thembelani.
"Those who received letters should rest assured that they will not lose their job. It will never happen."
Dressed in a green Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union T-shirt and a red tracksuit she chanted and punched the air as the group of workers waited for a report on the strike.
"There is a meeting going on with our leaders in Johannesburg. Anglo must stop these retrenchments or face the power of the workers," she said.
Strikers were meeting at various shafts for branch leaders to update them on the situation.
On Monday the workers delegated union leaders to ask Amplats to pay them for the days they had been on strike.
"This is a mandate the workers had put forward. We are going to engage with the company about this in our meeting," union leader Evans Ramokga said on Monday.
