Amplats strike to escalate

Amplats already lost R1.1bn due to strike

Johannesburg - Anglo Platinum [JSE:AMS] (Amplats) on Sunday said it has started discussions with unions to facilitate the return of workers at its North West mines.

Amplats said it was still recording attendance figures of less than 20% at its Rustenburg and Amandelbult mines, EWN reported.

According to the report, the miners’ strike committee said all workers were willing to return to work on condition that those who were fired be reinstated.

Amplats spokesperson Mpumi Sithole told the publication that the issues of 12 000 dismissed employees would be part of the discussions with unions.

Miners were fired after embarking on an illegal strike over three weeks ago.
