Johannesburg - Retailer Massmart Holdings [JSE:MSM] said Tuesday that for the 44 weeks to 2 May, total sales increased to R39.9bn - growth of 8.6% over the prior period, and comparable store sales grew 1.4%. Inflation for the period is estimated at 0.8%.
Massmart released the information to coincide with an analysts' store visit in the greater Durban region.
Massdiscounters' sales for the period grew 6.3% with comparable store sales up 1.1%, Masswarehouse's sales grew 2.3% with comparable store sales up 2.3%, Massbuild's sales grew 12.1% with comparable store sales up 2.2% and Masscash's sales were 13.6% higher with comparable store sales up 0.7%.
In line with past practice, during the week of July 5 2010 Massmart will release a sales update for the financial year to June 2010, it said.
