Cape Town - Power utility Eskom is expected to release a statement on Wednesday to clarify the fate of embattled CEO Jacob Maroga.
Bloomberg.com reports that Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger confirmed that the parastatal's board would be issuing a statement later today.
This was after a Beeld report which said the Eskom board regarded Maroga's resignation on October 28 as "valid", despite the fact that he was in the office on Monday.
Consequently, the Eskom board prevented the CEO from entering the offices on Tuesday and his duties were divided among top management, according to Beeld.
"The board was not aware that he had returned to work and was disturbed by it. Acting chairperson Mpho Makwana took steps to prevent him from returning to Megawatt Park today," Beeld quoted a senior employee as saying.
Beeld added that Maroga's personal assistant, Helen Bezuidenhout, confirmed that he had not been at work on Tuesday.
The recruitment of a new chief executive has apparently already been initiated by Makwana.
