Johannesburg - Liberty Health, the medical and health-related arm of JSE-listed Liberty Holdings, has been given the thumbs up by authorities to take over medical scheme Medicover's administration and healthcare capabilities.
This will be done through its recently acquired administration business Vmed, Liberty Health said in a statement.
"This transaction has resulted in Vmed almost doubling the number of lives to who it provides administration services (to over 350 000) - creating a powerful partnership that will allow for continued growth and expansion," said Liberty Health Chief Executive, Peter Botha.
He said "considerable" forward planning has taken place to ensure a seamless transition from its existing administration arrangements.
"The changeover has been structured to ensure no disruption to claims handling, call centre access or member services," he said.
The transaction that was approved by the Competition Commission and the Council for Medical Schemes was announced mid-January, shortly after the administration of Medicover by Vmed started January 1 2009.
