Cape Town - The chief executive of private-equity group Basileus Capital was shot dead in his Cape Town office, it was reported on Friday.

Moneyweb online reported that Julian Williams was shot in his office on Lower Long street on Thursday.

His shooter then apparently turned the gun on himself and was declared dead on arrival at hospital.

The website alleged the shooter was a former business partner who had a disagreement with Williams.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer November Filander told the Cape Times that Williams, 37, was found with gunshot wounds to the neck and stomach.

"The two were in a meeting in an office on the third floor of the Icon building in Lower Long street. People in the building heard about three shots being fired," he said.

A murder and inquest docket were opened.
