Cape Town – The Competition Tribunal on Wednesday approved the merger between Diageo SA and Brandhouse Beverages.
British-based Diageo is the world’s largest spirit maker and owns brands including Johnny Walker and Smirnoff, while locally based Brandhouse was a joint venture between Diageo, Heineken, and Namibia Breweries.
The new venture between Diageo South Africa and Brandhouse will be called DHN.
The merger was approved with conditions due to the possibility of job losses.
The tribunal supported the condition that the 451 positions lost as a result of the move by Brandhouse from Cape Town to Johannesburg, would be replaced by 451 jobs in the merged company DHN.
