Cape Town - The CEO of German automobile giant Volkswagen announced on Wednesday that he would resign, amid an emissions scandal that has rocked the company.
Reuters reported that Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn took responsibility for the German carmaker's rigging of US emissions tests.
"Volkswagen needs a fresh start - also in terms of personnel. I am clearing the way for this fresh start with my resignation," Winterkorn said in a statement.
