Johannesburg - South Africa's manufacturing output grew by 1.2% year-on-year in volume terms in April which was below expectations after contracting by 2.9% in March, Statistics South Africa said on Thursday.
Economists on average had expected factory output to grow by 1.9% on an annual basis in April.
On a month-on-month basis, production in volume terms rose by a seasonally adjusted 1.3%, and by 0.4% in the three months to April compared with the previous three months.
