R9m SABMiller boost for political parties

Johannesburg - Brewing giant SABMiller [JSE:SAB] said on Friday it had approved plans to provide R9m in funding to political parties in SA for next year’s general election.

The funding will be distributed across the six largest political parties in proportion to their seats in the National Assembly:
  • the African National Congress;
  • the Democratic Alliance;
  • the Congress of the People;
  • the Inkatha Freedom Party;
  • the United Democratic Movement; and
  • the Freedom Front Plus.
The company said funding formed part of its ongoing commitment to encourage the development of SA’s democratic political system.

SABMiller made contributions of R5m in the run-up to the 1999‚ 2004 and 2009 elections.
