Cape Town - Metrorail unions have been served with a notice that the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) will apply to the Labour Court to have a Cape Town strike declared unlawful, officials said on Friday.
Chris de Vos, general secretary of the United Transport and Allied Trade Union (Utatu), said the notice was served on Utatu and the SA Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu).
"Whatever the court rules in this regard will be respected by our union and members," said De Vos.
The unions embarked on strike action in Cape Town earlier this week to protest against changes to their shift roster.
Most Utatu members had returned to work by Thursday, but Satawu indicated its members would strike again on Sunday.
Prasa spokesperson Nana Zenani confirmed the Labour Court would hear its application on Friday afternoon.
