Stuttgart - German luxury sports carmaker Porsche on Monday launched a worldwide recall of 5 500 Carreras because of exhaust problems.
The cars at the centre of the recall were built between November 2011 and November 2012, a spokesperson for the Stuttgart-based carmaker said.
Vehicle tests showed that after clocking up between 40 000km to 100 000km a crack appeared on the exhaust.
This could lead to rust and the exhaust falling off the vehicle.
Half the cars affected have been sold in Porsche's key US market.
The Porsche spokesperson declined to comment on the cost of the recall.
