Cape Town - South African national oil company PetroSA has been granted regulatory approval to start producing gas feedstock from its $1bn offshore Ikhwezi gas project, the company said on Tuesday.

The offshore gas field, called “F-O”, is located off South Africa’s south coast and has in the region of 1 trillion cubic feet (TFC) of gas, with an upside of 2-3 TFC, the company has said.

Drilling for five of Project Ikhwezi’s wells is on track to start in November, with first gas production expected in mid-2013, it said.
