Cape Town - South African national oil company PetroSA has
been granted regulatory approval to start producing gas feedstock from its $1bn
offshore Ikhwezi gas project, the company said on Tuesday.
The offshore gas field, called “F-O”, is located off South
Africa’s south coast and has in the region of 1 trillion cubic feet (TFC) of
gas, with an upside of 2-3 TFC, the company has said.
Drilling for five of Project Ikhwezi’s wells is on track to
start in November, with first gas production expected in mid-2013, it said.
